 Galaxy Alpha-teardown
Under the sleek appearance of the new Samsung Galaxy Alpha is a bit messy inner hidden.

The website iFixit is known for carefully dissecting the most popular phones, to see how easy they are to fix. Recently, the Galaxy Alpha’s turn, a new smartphone from Samsung as it profiles. As iPhone competitor So although it may seem the look on an Apple product, the inside is mostly a smaller replica of the Galaxy S5, and that does not address very well.

Water and dust problems
The Alpha is carefully closed in many areas, but in reality does not mean that he is very resistant to water and dust. There is even a rubber coating on the back present to keep out unwanted material.

If you want to repair your phone, you walk with the Galaxy Alpha quickly into trouble. Because you will always have to remove if you want to spend. Repairs to the glued screen This will be for many owners are not important, but for the do-it-yourselfer, this is an extra obstacle. Ultimately, namely only the back and battery easily removed and replaced.

Buttons and the home button (which relatively quickly for replacement) therefore are enormously difficult to replace. Overall, the Galaxy Alpha Galaxy S5 seems to imitate, but are taking all the advantages omitted. The ‘repair ability’ that iFixit to the Samsung Galaxy Alpha measures is therefore a disappointing 5/10. More information about the Galaxy Alpha can be read here.

What on Earth Is Minecraft 10 Things to Know About Microsofts Billion Dollar Acquisition

With over 54 million copies sold, Minecraft represents the biggest niche audience since gaming itself. News that Microsoft has acquired Minecraft maker Mojang for $2.5 billion should have gotten your attention, so lets take a look at what Minecraft is. The game itself was released nearly five years ago, so this isnt an in-depth explanation - just a quick guide to get non-gamers up to date with what the hype is about.
1. Minecraft is a video game
This should be obvious, but Minecraft is a video game that was first released in an "alpha" state in 2009. You might be familiar with the concept of a beta, where software is released but continues to be developed to remove bugs. An alpha is what comes before the beta - where youre not just testing for bugs but still developing the key features, and creating art, sound and other assets in case of video games.

Minecraft was originally released as a PC game, but over the years as its popularity grew, it was ported to more platforms. Today, you can get Minecraft for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita.
2. Minecraft isnt really a video game
While Minecraft has many game-like elements, its really much more like digital Lego. The game itself doesnt really have a goal - you can explore the world, and build what you want. In Survival mode - which is the closest Minecraft gets to a game, you have a health bar which can be depleted by attacks from monsters, starvation, suffocation and more events.

minecraft_youtube_screenshot_01.jpg
You can make armour and weapons, and build defences, breed animals and more. Then theres Creative mode, where you have access to most of the resources through a menu, and you can fly around the world. Youre free to build large projects, and just have fun.
3. Minecraft has sold over 54 million copies
Whether you think that Minecraft is a game or not, theres no denying that it is a success. Taking into account all platforms, Minecraft has sold over 54 million copies. You can play Minecraft by yourself and create things on your own, and if you want, you can connect to this huge community in multiplayer worlds, where you can work together to build things.

4. It looks like first-person Lego
Minecraft has a unique visual style that has inspired quite a few imitators by now. Everything is made up of blocks - including your character, and even the water looks blocky. This is a deliberate stylistic choice, although some players use mods to change the way Minecraft looks. Funnily enough, while Minecraft has been described as digital Lego at least partly for this reason, there are now official Lego Minecraft sets you can buy.

minecraft_youtube_screenshot_04.jpg
5. There is mining, and crafting
In survival mode, you start the game empty-handed and need to hit blocks to collect them. So you can hit a tree, and get some wood, for example. Thats the most basic thing you can do though. The next step is to use the crafting grid to turn those blocks of wood into planks. From there, you can turn the planks into a crafting table, where you can make more complex items - such as a wooden axe, with which you can get wood faster. Keep crafting and your mining becomes better.

The more you mine, the more materials and combinations become possible, and after that, you can start to build highly complex structures. People have made reproductions of Hogwarts and real world locations like the Eiffel Tower, giant Marios bestriding the blocky tiles, and even simple towers to protect themselves. Using special "redstone" blocks that can have more than one state, people have built calculators and even computers, investing a huge amount of time and effort to work it all out and then put them together.
6. You can play Minecraft inside Minecraft
You know how we mentioned that using redstone blocks you can create binary switches and make computers? Setting up several thousand of these blocks, some people have even made a very basic 2D Minecraft that you can play - inside Minecraft. The scale of the work required to do this honestly boggles the mind, and thats just putting it all together.

minecraft_youtube_screenshot_02.jpg
First, someone had to figure out how to make this whole system of tens of thousands of bricks to work together.
7. The world of Minecraft is 9 million times the size of Earth
The world of Minecraft is theoretically infinite - the areas are made up of chunks that are loaded as required. There are some technical limitations to the total space possible, and therefore, the total surface area is 4.7 quadrillion kilometres squared. The Earth is "just" 510 million kilometres squared, making Minecraft effectively over 9 times bigger.

8. Minecraft helped popularise the "early access" model
Today, paying for a game that is still a work in progress isnt a big deal. Theres Kickstarter of course, where you might pay for something thats barely an idea. And then theres something like Steam Early Access, where you can pay for games that are still being made.

minecraft_youtube_screenshot_03.jpg
Minecraft is probably the most famous example of the trend - players could buy the game in the initial development stages, the alpha and later the beta, all the way up to the final release. At each stage, the cost of the game went up, but if you bought an older version of the game, you were assured a copy of the final game at no additional cost, along with other benefits. Games like DayZ would come along later and cement the model, but Minecraft is certainly one of the games that set the early trend.
9. Minecraft has a huge fanbase, with merchandise and meetups
There are Minecraft conventions, including the official one - MineCon, which has taken place in locations like Washington, Las Vegas, Disneyland Paris and Orlando, Florida. These events were heavily attended and show how involved the community is. On the Minecraft website, you can buy a lot of merchandise as well, ranging from soft toys to vinyl figures, foam swords, blocky torches, mugs, posters and clothes.

Minecraft might have started as a digital distraction, but it is very much present in the real world today.
10. Minecraft has applications well beyond Minecraft
Minecraft has been discussed as a teaching tool for Computer Aided Design, and for other educational tasks. It can be used to build virtual designs for 3D printers, for example. This year, the Danish Geodata Agency recreated all of Denmark at a 1:1 scale in Minecraft, a virtual world anyone can visit. Minecraft has also been introduced in several schools to teach subjects such as history and science. For example, teachers have taken advantage of the popularity of the game to build multiplayer servers where they can recreate the pyramids, and other monuments, together in Minecraft.

Opinion 5 ways the Samsung Galaxy S6 indeed is successful – Android Planet

We wrote about it earlier: earnings from Samsung were poor in 2014, partly because of the disappointing sales of the Galaxy S5. Can the Samsung Galaxy S6 turn the tide for the smartphonetak of the company?

Samsung makes it difficult

Samsung recorded over the past year lowest profit in three years, which on the one hand is due to the success of Apple and smartphone makers in China and in part to the disappointing sales of the Galaxy S5. That device eventually sold 40 percent less than expected, causing the share of smartphonetak profit of Samsung surged down. The South Korean company made although still large profit (19 billion euros in 2014), but sees competition from companies such as Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi increase considerably.

In 2015, Samsung cuts whatsoever in the portfolio smartphones that deliver business. For the Galaxy S6, which is expected to announced in early March, has little effect. Yet there will be some things need to be changed, Samsung wants to prevent the S6 same fate as its predecessor.

So the Galaxy S6 can be successfully

1. Sharper price

Samsung Galaxy S6 successful LG has demonstrated with the introduction of the LG G3 that high- end smartphones not necessarily very expensive need to be and phone makers as OnePlus and Huawei booked last year success with affordable flagships which offer great value for their money.

We would like to see that Samsung does something to the price of the Galaxy S6. The S5 took in appearance as much as 699 euros and now has a price of around 500 euros. And while the smartphone converted 217 euros it costs to produce. Come on Samsung, there may still be something of which recommended price

2 Premium appearance

Galaxy S5 buy This area for improvement is in Following on from the previous one. Despite that the Galaxy S5 has a hefty price tag, he feels not particularly expensive or premium to. This is mainly due to the plastic housing and the back cover with the corny well motif. Have the advantage compared to eg a HTC One M8 is that the housing is waterproof and the battery can be changed.

But an extension of 600 or 700 euros we expect more. Rumors are that the Galaxy finally S6 is equipped with a metal housing, although that is still far from certain. The same was expected because of the Galaxy S5. Metal would be able to ensure that the unit is a more premium look that is distinctive in comparison with the plastic phones from China. Anyway we want some design concerns something different: the last three Galaxy S phones have indeed looked almost identical

3.. Less useless additions

Samsung should stop adding useless gimmicks

The Galaxy S5 is bursting additions, including a fingerprint scanner, a heart rate monitor and countless Samsung apps that you would not normally find in Android. That there are many features, appears from the settings menu where as many as 60 (!) Options can be found. Many of the apps and additions, however, are not very useful and ensure that only the 16GB of storage such 8,7GB remains available. In addition, we find the heart rate monitor does not really accurate and makes the fingerprint scanner is difficult to unlock with one hand the device.

We hope Samsung focus more Galaxy S6 on things that are really important to the user and the number of amusing, but useless additions to a minimum. Consider the quality of the camera, longer battery life and a more user friendly interface; that are parts that certainly still room for improvement.

4. More Lollipop, less TouchWiz

TouchWiz It seems happy that Samsung Galaxy S6 has caught the focus again, as the manufacturer may TouchWiz shell lying on Android, will simplify. TouchWiz must become more like stock Android, with unnecessary features are removed and improved the main features of Android. Samsung would be the interface of the Nexus 6 (stock Android 5.0) taking as a starting point and that is what we are concerned only good news.

In recent years, TouchWiz often criticized because the skin Android would make slower . Moreover, the colorful design can only enchant few users. We find it too busy and cluttered and that is especially for novice users a great disadvantage.

5. Better battery life

LeanDroid battery tip The battery life of Samsung smartphones has already improved significantly in 2014, which is mainly due to the additional saving power mode. This offers especially for devices with AMOLED screens advantages, since not only redundant processes are stopped, but the screen switches to grayscale.

This year, the manufacturer may be our opinion still improve on, for example, by implementing a larger battery, optimize the software and improve energy-saving capabilities. Indeed, it is still waiting for the first Android smartphone that even with heavy use for more than a half day life.

Do you think the Samsung Galaxy S6 is successful? Leave it in the comments to know why!

XiaoMi is now 10 billions worth said CEO Lei Jun

After a new successful funding round, the XiaoMi CEO, Lei Jun confirms through his Sina Weibo account a valuation of XiaoMi of $10 billions. A year ago, his company was "only" worth $4 billions.

As we mentioned in many of our reports, the growth rate is accelerating and it wont slow down with the XiaoMi Mi 3, a Zi Mi (Purple Rice) Tablet or/and Smart TVs.

Lei Jun was a lot compared to Steve Jobs but the man recused that statement a few weeks ago. The CEO says that his company is a lot like Amazon and it is e-commerce first and not a phone maker. Seeing how the Mi Store is growing, Lei Jun might be right since its online store is offering more and more products and most of them are not XiaoMi made.
