Samsung Galaxy Alpha first smartphone in the Netherlands with LTE A – Android Planet

Monday, September 1st, 2014 (15:29) | Gijs Cigarettes

Galaxy Alpha LTE-A The Galaxy Alpha is the first smartphone with support for 4G + (or LTE -Advanced) in the Netherlands, as Samsung has announced. The faster variant of 4G, which offers significantly higher download and upload is still available, hardly places in the Netherlands for KPN and Vodafone have already started rolling out its own 4G + network. T-Mobile allows LTE-A as yet for what it is, but uses a lot of bandwidth in the 1800MHz band. Therefore, the provider can theoretical speeds of around 150Mbps achieved.

In theory supports the Galaxy Alpha download speeds of 300Mbps, which is considerably faster than the download speed of 75Mbps, allowing for even most providers now. This, too, concerns a theoretical download speed of the device type, your location (inside or outside) and the traffic on the network are all factors that affect the 4G speed

Motorola Moto G 4G LTE Review The Upgrade

Motorola Moto G 4G is definitely a phone many are looking forward to. It is the upgrade people wanted and Motorola delivered. The very popular Moto G was criticized about its lack of memory expansion slot and not so about the missing LTE connectivity. Well, here it is - the Moto G 4G with a microSD slot and LTE support. Motorola even managed to sneak a gyro sensor, as well. The rest of the hardware is pretty much identical to the Moto G.

The Moto G 4G is like an expansion pack, it isnt a brand new device, a successor, a sequel. It is just an improved edition for those who wished for one. It is that simple. It comes with all pros and cons the original Moto G came sans the upgrades. Luckily, the price remains really attractive and the new features will cost you a premium of only about €35. This allows it to keep its place among the cheapest LTE-enable phones on the market.

After we did all our test, we found the Moto G 4G performing great most of the time. Here is our traditional summary:

Motorola Moto G 4G test findings:
  1. Build quality is great, though the plastic is not inspiring, rear covers are exchangeable
  2. The display is very bright, the contrast and the sunlight legibility are very good
  3. The battery life is very good
  4. It has an all-round connectivity package including LTE, USB Host and FM radio
  5. We rated the speaker loudness as Excellent, which is rare among smartphones these days
  6. Latest Android KitKat version with a fast track update program, has some proprietary Moto apps - Assist, Migrate, Alert
  7. The benchmark performance is OK for the class
  8. The audio output quality is excellent
  9. Video player handles DivX, XviD, MKV and MP4, but lacks WMV, MOV, AC3 decoding capabilities
  10. Camera takes average 5MP photos and poor 720p videos
The uninspiring camera has been an issue for the Moto G and Moto E, and it continues to be so in the Moto G 4G. While it could have benefited from an upgrade, we would have been happy even on an improved camera algorithm. But given the great achievements in every other department, including the fast Android updates, we are definitely inclined to forgive the poor camera performance.

Page Plus Announces LTE Support Coming In October

Page Plus logo smallVerizon MVNO Page Plus has announced that it will implement support for official 4G LTE device activation beginning in October, after months of speculation on if Page Plus would offer such access. As Verizon Wireless recently expanded access to its LTE network to its own prepaid service over the summer, speculation grew at a fever pitch regarding which Verizon MVNOs would be the first to receive access to Verizon’s LTE network, with Page Plus being the most heavily discussed.
Page Plus dealers will be receiving more details in the weeks leading up to the launch and Page Plus has been assigned its own LTE SIM card for service activation that will also be made available to dealers next month. Service plan costs will not be increased with the inclusion of 4G LTE access, while “The 12″ plan will be excluded from 4G LTE service activation, otherwise all current plans will work for 4G LTE activation with full speeds and 3G service.
