Carters Apple Crumble!

Carters Apple Crumble!

This week I wanted to make something with apples for Mini Chef Mondays.  I bought a giant bag of apples at Lidl and I was getting a little worried we wouldnt be able to finish them all in time, so I grabbed 3 apples and called Carter into the kitchen to get cooking!  We made this easy and yummy apple crisp and served it with vanilla ice cream for dessert!

Easy Apple Crisp Yum

For the apples:
  • 3 large or 4 medium apples
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • a squirt of lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp (or more) of cinnamon*
  • 1 tablespoon flour
For the topping:
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 cup oatmeal (we used 3/4 cup and it was way too much)
  • dash of salt
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter

* I really like cinnamon, so I always use a little extra!

Adult step: Peel, core and slice the apples. Preheat the oven to 375F.

Mix together apples, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon and 1 tablespoon flour.

Spread the apple mixture evenly into a pie pan or other similar sized baking pan (a square pan works, too!).

Mix together the topping ingredients, except the butter. Be sure to mix well so the brown sugar and flour is evenly dispersed.

Spread the topping mixture over the apples.  You can let your kids help with this step, using clean hands to spread the mixture!  Then, cut the butter into small squares and spread them evenly over the oats mixture.  In this picture I didnt cut them small enough so the butter didnt spread throughout!

Alternately, you could cut the butter into the topping using a pastry cutter and then spread the mixture over the apples all together.  You must have very cold butter to do this.

Bake for 30 - 35 minutes in preheated oven.

Slice up and serve with vanilla ice cream! Enjoy!
